NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — The father of a Tennessee nurse gunned down on a highway lunged at two suspects accused of killing his daughter as they appeared in court Tuesday morning.
Caitlyn Kaufman, 26, was driving to work on I-440 on Dec. 3, 2020. Police say she was traveling for her shift at St. Thomas West in Nashville when someone fired at least six rounds at her car from the interstate. Kaufman was struck by gunfire that killed her within 15 seconds, according to the medical examiner.
Devaunte Hill and James Cowan were later arrested and charged with murder. According to investigators, cell phone data placed both Hill and Cowan near the scene where the nurse was killed. Previous details from court suggest the deadly shooting may have stemmed from road rage.
The pair appeared for a motion hearing Tuesday morning before Judge Angelita Dalton. When they walked into the courtroom, Kaufman’s father lunged at them and had to be restrained.
Sealed documents are expected to be released in court Tuesday.
